When Yes means No and No means Yes…

Yesterday as I worked and kept checking things off of my “To Do” list, I glanced at all I had left to complete and whispered to myself “why don’t I have enough time to do what I love to do?”  Within seconds I received my response “because every Yes is a No and every No is a Yes”.  I had to pause for a moment and think how is my yes a no and my no a yes.  Then it dawned on me every single time I say Yes to something or someone I am directly saying No to something or someone else.  My yes to a meeting is a NO to having that time available.  My yes to the extra piece of cake or food that I know I shouldn’t have is a direct NO on me getting healthy and in shape.  So many times we don’t understand why we feel like we are losing our time or our days and they just slip through our fingers all the while it may be our very own doing. Or we question why we struggle so much in an area of our lives but forget to take a step back and look to see what I said yes and no to.

My direct yes to sin is a direct NO to being free from the very thing I am struggling with.  My direct Yes to God having control over my life is a direct NO to the enemy having control of mine.  My direct YES to scheduling my prayer time is a direct NO to time lost that can never be gained back.

Psalms 90:12 says

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

A wise heart knows time is essential and it understands the weight and outcome that a Yes and a No brings.  My prayer is that we see the value in our Yes and No.  That we understand that we are to number our days, schedule them out, make the right choices so that we may get a heart of wisdom.  A heart that through the experiences of having said No and Yes can learn how to make better choices of who and what we give our time to.

Ps. If you know that your Yes and your No have caused you to lose out on time,  or have caused you to fall back into something you didn’t want to fall into, remember that a Yes to God is a direct NO to the enemy.  Say this prayer with me, Lord God Almighty I come before you knowing that the wrong Yes has at times brought me to negative places and that my No to you has contributed to my failures.  But I know that you are God of promises, forgive me for my failings and teach me to number my days, that I make my Yes a powerful one and my No a point of change in my life, that I may grow in wisdom in my heart so that I live out the purpose  you have for me and the dreams I carry within, in Jesus name Amen.
