We have all had at least one person be a lighthouse for us. Some of us may have had many people at different stages in our lives be that for us. Last night as I sat there my eyes filled with water and my heart with gratitude, thanking God for all the lighthouses in my life. Those that helped me chart through waters, some still waters, some raging seas and some very tough storms. Yet they provided a light, a guide, a word of caution and helped navigate the seas of my life. We don’t live life out just for us, even when we try to our lives directly affect other people for the good or the bad. We all have an opportunity to be a lighthouse. Why hide the skills we have? Why hide the light inside us that can help others?
Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus is speaking and saying “you are the light of the world a city on a hill” and then he goes on to say “when you light a lamp you put it on a table so that everyone in the house can see”. Verse 16 is what I was reminded of as I was sitting there thinking and reminiscing.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
We have the opportunity to shine a light for others. Don’t hide what you have to offer for it can make a difference. We are called to be a light at all times, in all places, for all people.
Teaching a young girl how to braid her hair. Sharing a cup of coffee with someone and listening to them. Teaching someone how to read the bible and actually understand it. Cooking a meal for others or teaching them how to cook a meal. Sowing a dress or making a craft together. Praying for others and helping them whenever possible. Finding a way to make family memories that have lasting impressions for generations to comer. Don’t underestimate what you have to offer don’t underestimate the light you have to shine to help others just because you are not in the same place as someone else.
Lighthouses are positioned in different parts of the world some are rarely seen some are seen all the time but they ALL have the same purpose, to shine a light for someone else, so they don’t loose their way. Jesus is that light that came to guide us to an ever lasting life with the father. It is that same Jesus that spoke to them and said “You are the light of the World”. It is that same Jesus that told them and reminds us today to shine a light for everyone to see and that gives glory to our father in heaven. May your light give Glory to our Father in Heaven.

PS. Take a moment to read the passage above and thank God for the people in our life that have been a lighthouse to you. Then, thank God for Jesus the ultimate guide to the father that not only shined His light on us to guide us into a life of eternity, but tells us to shine that light from within.
